5. Gwent League Port Talbot

Another great week for UBACCC to follow up on BUCS XC, as the Senior Mens’ Cross Country squad embarked on another trip to Wales! This time to the home of el Presidente @seren_g_w , Port Talbot. Margam Park was the host to another key fixture in the hunt for Gwent League Division 4 glory. A strong UBACCC team managed to make the trip, many being well-rested despite last weeks Pembrey antics. A much shorter journey was welcomed by all with car conversations ranging from @williamralston_ practically googling facts to win an argument, to @alexstewart2108 discussing whether you should lie in the bathtub before you buy.

After arriving quite late with a certain unnamed team member forgetting their spikes (unnamed as he still beat most of us), a warm up and pre-race porter loo trip was completed swiftly in no particular order. The stage was set for a tough, muddy course involving a very large uphill, then a very large downhill (almost like any cross country ever). After a very fast start everyone battled well to complete a gruelling race in difficult conditions surrounded by a very strong field. Alex Stewart was the first ubaccc vest home at 30:59. He was followed by John Poulter (31:53), Tim Rafferty (32:18), Nathan Morris (33:42), Will Ralston (34:14), Felix Wright (35:14), Tom Sobey (35:41) and Alex Feltham (44:44). It was also worth noting Felthams’ sprint to the finish line was incredible. 😍

Another very good result on the road for UBACCC, finishing as an impressive 8th overall team and registering a B-team for the first time this season. However, there was some bad news with @felixdennison and @jakehooley_both very characteristically flaking last minute 😔. Apparently they had an excuse. Onto 4th March for the final fixture at Pont-y-Pwl Park. Did somebody say promotion? 👀
