6. Gwent League Pont-y-pwl

A huge weekend that will surely go down in UBACCC history. A final trip to Wales with Pont-y-Pwl Park being the venue. Some difficulty was faced in the build up, with the decision to encourage a larger turnout without sufficient transport creating initial stress. However, after a late discovery of three working cars, the XC squad were ready to go and claim some silverware. After a quick T-shirt pit stop to keep @s0phiepeach happy, we were greeted by one the steepest course walks you’ll see. It was in fact pointed out that the course was parallel to a 350 meter Ski slope. Brilliant. First was the Women’s U20s, where Jess McKenzie (6th) and Georgia Carr (8th) both fought valiantly to finish strong in a competitive and small field. This was followed by the Mens’ U20s. Henry ‘I didn’t go out last night I only spent 6 hours in the pub’ Fieldsend had a brilliant race, coming in 4th place. Onto the Mens’ Senior Race, where the Division 4 Title was well and truly there for the taking. After a warm up involving all team members, apart from @felixdennison who was too busy enjoying his M&S bread rolls, the lads were ready to go. Three laps of a course entailing over 300 meters elevation proved for difficulty pacing, but everyone battled well. Special mention to Alex Stewart, coming in 4th overall. This also meant that Alex finished the leading U23 in the entire league season. Happy Birthday mate. He was followed by James Saunders (34th), Nathan Morris (65th), Felix Wright (75th), Tom Sobey (79th), Felix Dennison (89th), Jakob Zegocki (99th) and Bobby Carter (116th). Another shoutout to @alexfeltham_ for his unwavering support for the team despite injury. And thanks to @s0phiepeach for literally organising it. Another very good away day for UBACCC, becoming Division 4 Champions and finishing the 11th best team overall for Senior Men. A rowdy promotion party with many fellow UBACCC members followed. Conversations ranged from @felixdennison ‘s stitch to why Adama Traore is the best player in the world. A truly great way to cap off a brilliant Cross Country season. We are going up!!!
