7. Exeter Varsity!!!

This week we made the trip down to Exeter for South West Varsity! This time the track squad was joined by Gwent league champions Wright, Stewart and Sobey…

After a quick train journey, we arrived in Exeter significantly many of the other unis, including Exeter. Shock. The weather was sub-optimal but encouraging. The Galahad cans had been purchased and a very exciting day followed.

There were some fantastic performances throughout the day. In the Mens’ 100m, Lio Robinson registered a PB (11.99) with Matt Clare narrowly behind (12.45). In the Womens’ 100m, fast times were recorded from 100m Lucy Loades (13:67), Ebony White (13.99) and Fahmida Ahmed (14:51). On top of this Lucy Loades did manage to run 2:48 in the 800m, accompanied by Rosangela Sumbo (2:29)!. PBs were also logged in the 400m from Jan Bauer (58.18) and Millie Siderfin (61.70). Furthermore, Kaan Tosun managed two throws exceeding 14 metres with a best of 14.39 in the shot-put. Lucy Loades additionally threw 8.68 in the same event.

Onto the distance side, Alex Stewart was as annoying as ever. He won the Steeple (9:43), came third in the 1500 (4:15) and ran a 16:32 5k to finish off. Have a day off mate. James Carruthers ran 4:52 in the 1500m to partner Stewart. Felix Wright (17:32) and Tom Sobey (18:18) also ran respectable times in the 5k.

A final shoutout goes to Holly for organising the day to partner helping the officials in both the Javelin and the shot-put! In weather conditions that got increasingly worse throughout the day, a group decision was made to skip the relays and head back to Bristol. An apocalyptic cool down to the station followed, where sacking it off and going to the pub was considered multiple times. Its also worth noting @alexstewart2108 got dropped in the cool down. Mind the gap mate.

This was followed by a debrief on the journey back with the ‘Current Number 1 Steeple Chaser in the UK’ handing out Galahads like they grow on trees, before rushing to Lansdown to watch people over half a decade younger than @thomassobey get elected to the committee to end a great day!
