9. BUCS Outdoors 2023

*BUCS Outdoors Race Report*

The drama started in the car on the journey up with President @seren_g_w endangering lives before we had even got out of Bristol. Thanks for taking one for the team Seren, but next time I’ll walk. Somehow, we made it to Manchester all in one piece to encounter some muddled rooms to a ‘disproportionate number of males to females’ (apparently).

Onto the Athletics... In the Mens’ 1500m Alex Wood, Alex Aldred and Steven Denby made the Semi-Finals. @alex.aldred managed to PB in both rounds, whilst finding out he was in the semis while on the phone to his Mum. @milly_siderfin made the semi-final of the Womens’ 400m in a very competitive heat. Kaan Tosun produced the performance of the weekend, where he broke the University Shot Put Record and qualified for the final. Unfortunately, no one actually let Kaan know he had made the final so he didn’t actually compete in it, which probably summed the weekend up perfectly. An additional shoutout to both our relays teams, who managed to get disqualified…

Most of the fun took place in the call room, which became more of a University Study Zone, to the bemusement of Loughborough’s Javelin Coach. Apparently ‘we were better off moving as they’re serious’. In our defence, ~2 hours later @_henryfs_ was warming up for the Mens 1500m final. Just a shame Henry was doing this for a laugh and not actually racing. However, it was fantastic entertainment, with some clubs members finding it funnier than others. Henry also provided solidarity for @s0phiepeach , in warming up to not race. Apparently you can’t run when its raining. The Sunday evening saw a trip to maybe the worst in Manchester. This did provide the opportunity for Sophie, Serem and Aldred to attempt break dancing. This was followed by a night out for some, including @hollyymckenna who went on to through a PB in the javelin the next day. Additionally, during a Sunday Run, @ben_____davies mistook a bridge for Old Trafford. Don’t worry mate I remember the first time I went to a football ground.

Finally, congratulations to Brighton and Hove Albion, and @nataliebsofia ‘s hog roast for derailing our BUCS hopes in different ways.
